Adopting CC-BY-SA 3.0

Per phab:T248271, we are asking all previous editors of Wikispore to verify here that their earlier contributions are under CC-BY-SA 3.0 or a freer license.--Pharos (talk) 12:46, 7 June 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  4. All my contributions are in the public domain. I don't have strong feelings on which free culture license we use as long as it meets or exceeds Freedom Defined criteria. Koavf (talk) 23:15, 7 June 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Discussion on the (subtle?) difference(s) between CC-BY-SA 3.0 and CC-BY-SA 4.0

  • Why not CC-BY-SA 4.0 or GFDL? Feel free to briefly discuss the (subtle?) differences between each. Dmehus (talk) 14:41, 29 June 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I don't have a complete understanding of the slight differences in license versioning, but after some discussion we thought it best to use CC-BY-SA 3.0 for the fullest compatibility with Wikipedia article content that might be imported or exported in future.--Pharos (talk) 19:23, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • GFDL is not particularly good for a wiki; Wikimedia wikis only use it for legacy reasons. CC 4.0 would mean Wikispore content cannot be reused on Wikimedia wikis. Probably not an issue, but 3.0 can be upgraded any time so it's easier to just go with what Wikimedia is doing. --Tgr (talk) 15:12, 25 July 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I have created Template:CC-legacy because although I think we have every contributor to a content page covered, there are a couple of discussion pages like Guestbook and Greenhouse where there are some old contrubutors' comments from before the adoption, who have not been able to sign onto the above section yet.--Pharos (talk) 19:30, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
