Org:Africa Knowledge Initiative
The Africa Knowledge Initiative is a partnership between the Wikimedia Foundation and the African Union.[1] It is a capacity-building partnership designed to address African knowledge gaps on-wiki, expand African language coverage, reach new audiences, and to grow the African contributor base. (Draw more from [1].)
In 2022-23, the WMF is facilitating the pan-African content campaigns co-created with Wikimedia communities around three AU holidays: Africa Youth Day, Africa Environment Day, and Africa Day. Activities will be coordinated by a Wikimedian in Residence (hired as of August 2022) and an implementing partner organization called Africa No Filter.[2][3]

Seeking collaboration? | Yes |
Seeking collaboration with | Focused on connecting with existing meta/international organizers (could be individuals, groups, organizations) ready to lead campaigns in each of the topical areas for the campaigns (pivoted on the select AU holidays) selected. The goal is to use this project as a conduit to scale existing campaigns and not duplicate efforts. We need full support of communities/affiliates in sharing more about this initiative with their members, aligned communities or to civil society organizations that might be good allies for bridging content gaps around the selected topical areas. We are interested in working with Africans in the diaspora, content producers, youth activists and civil society organizations that are interested in the topical areas of interest of the project or can introduce other key topical areas of interests that are the highlight of current discourse from the continent. The goal here would be to train, build capacity and increase reach beyond our current affiliate network. |
