Linking to Wikidata in a Cargo template

Thanks very much for showing this elegant way to display links to wikidata in a Cargo template. I'm copying it to other wikis. -- Econterms (talk) 01:22, 9 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wikidata infoboxes

Thanks for figuring out the Wikidata infoboxes! I'm using it on many pages. Econterms (talk) 01:12, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Econterms: No worries! I'm going to add more to it. What things would you like to see? My next thing I think is to add a map (for {{place}}). Or perhaps work on {{person}} and make sure it can handle dates and places of birth and death, and lists of parents, partners, and children. Templates

Hi Sam, thank you for your templates. I like them very much and would like to keep in touch with that topic. I'm considering whether a commons category could be integrated into the info box - to replace the former wikidata- and the commons-template. ChristianSW (talk) 18:27, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@ChristianSW: Sorry for my slow reply, it seems that I didn't get a notification (or maybe I just missed it!). Yes, I think it'd be great to add Commons cateogry to the {{infobox}}. What do you think would be the best way? I've been thinking that it should be like the Wikidata Infobox on Commons, where links to sister projects are shown centred and bold below the image. Would that work? Samwilson (talk) 02:42, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Samwilson Yes, that's a nice solution. ChristianSW (talk) 06:06, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Embed Wikidara Queries

Hello Sam, I would like to present you a proposal for Wikispore: In order to present information from Wikidata / Structured Data On Commons, I would appreciate the possibility to embed the results of queries in Wikispore. Not only is information processed and presented, but the query behind the data can be understood and changed. Kind regards from Germany ChristianSW (talk) 17:22, 23 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@ChristianSW: Queries are already possible, although there's no user interface. The Lua syntax is mw.ext.UnlinkedWikibase.query( sparql ). Here's an example of some queries that I've been working on on a different site: https://freo.wiki/Meshblock_50117553000 — there are still some issues, and complex queries still fail because of the time limit of the Wikidata Query Service. Also, I don't think SDC is ready for external querying yet (it requires users to log in to run queries there, so I'm not sure how that'd work for a wiki interface). Do you have any specific data that you want to display firstly? Samwilson (talk) 03:28, 24 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, you are right about SDC. Thank you for your help, I have to learn much about it. ChristianSW (talk) 08:07, 24 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi @Samwilson, I really like freo.wiki! I saw your presentation on YouTube - we can link it here in a suitable place. It's interesting that some pages in freo.wiki do not deal with an object but with a geographical area. For Geo Spore, I'm thinking about how to avoid pure "object orientation". So I embedded a map display in the category "Schneverdingen" - is Geo:Category:Schneverdingen a better structure? ChristianSW (talk) 08:43, 17 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Wikidata link

Hi @Samwilson I noticed that the displayed name is taken directly from title of the corresponding Wikispore page. I believe it's better to get the name from Wikidata, like in an infobox, to allow for multilingual naming. For example Alte Schule (Schneverdingen) is displayed as Alte Schule (Schneverdingen) with (Schneverdingen) for disambiguation on Wikispore, but in the infobox it is named and described correctly as Alte Schule / building in Schneverdingen. @ChristianSW: Sorry, I only just saw this message! I think email notifications aren't working? Anyway, yes, I think I agree, it'd probably be better to use the Wikidata label. I'll have a look at fixing it up. Thanks! Samwilson (talk) 11:00, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
