It serves as a compendium of this event in time, drawing on a variety of journalistic and other sources. For occasions such as international observances, it covers related events globally.

On 15 August 2025, the government of Guinea-Bissau announced, in a decree, the expulsion of two Portuguese media outlets, Agência Lusa and Radio e Televisao de Portugal. Broadcasting was indefinitely suspended, and journalists were given until 19 August to leave the country.[1] Bissau-Guinean foreign minister Carlos Pinto Periera stated that the decision would be explained in a press briefing.[2] As of 19 August 2025, no official reason has been provided, although the situation was described as "a problem between Guinea-Bissau and Portugal" by Bissau-Guinean president Umaro Sissoco Embaló.[3]

The decision was condemned by the Portuguese government, which in return summoned Guinea-Bissau's ambassador, scheduling a meeting on 16 August.[4]

Reporters Without Borders and the Committee to Protect Journalists both noted the proximity in time to the November presidential election and the potential effect on its media coverage, calling on Guinea-Bissau's government to reverse the decision.[5][3]
