League football in Scotland is most often considered as associated with the Scottish Football League, the Scottish Premier League, and subsequently the Scottish Professional Football Association.
However various other League structures were established in the period between 1890 and 1940, including:
- Scottish Football Alliance
- Scottish Football Federation
- Central Football Combination
- Midland Football League
- Scottish Football Union
- Central Football League
- Eastern Football League
In addition, there were teams playing in leagues under the auspices of the Scottish Junior Football Association.
Clubs moved between Associations and Leagues as their circumstances and opportunities changed.
