Wikimedia Italia, or Wikimedia Italy (WMIT) is the Wikimedia chapter in Italy. Unlike other chapters, it is both a Wikimedia chapter and an OpenStreetMap chapter.

WMIT gets ~80% of its revenue from donations through a checkbox on Italian personal taxes. Italian taxpayers can choose to give ~35 euros to a charity instead of the Italian government. Just by being one of the options, WMIT gets most of its revenue.[1]

WMIT is the direct employer of many of the WiRs in Italy. The host institution (a GLAM or university usually) contracts with WMIT to have a WiR for some period. The host institutions benefit because (1) it's hard to hire and fire in Italy; a contract is easier for them; (2) they don't know who to hire necessarily, so WMIT is de facto a screening mechanism for them. The result is also a small flow of contracting revenue to WMIT.[1]
