International Women's Day 2021 is a commemoration of International Women's Day. The UN Women theme for this year is "Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world". This highlights the gendered impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the UN Women statement also highlights the lack of women in government and the relative success of several nations led by women during the pandemic. It also aligns with the theme of the 65th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. It continues the Generation Equality campaign from last year, and further develops the concept with the planned Generation Equality Forum in Mexico City and Paris. [1] The International Women's Strike has also been active in parts of the world since 2017.
