Mary Elizabeth Gregory (1851-1891) was the mother of Louis George Gregory, and the second wife of George Gregory.
Born into slavery in Darlington, South Carolina, to Mary Bacot and her enslaver, George Washington Dargan, she first married Ebenezer George, some time after Emancipation. The Georges had two sons, Theodore Augustas and Louis, before Ebenezer died of tuberculosis (which happened before 1880). Mary Elizabeth George, or Elizabeth as she preferred to be called, married George Gregory on 14 Jul 1881 in Charleston, South Carolina. She was a dressmaker by trade.
Mary Elizabeth Gregory died from spinal menengitis in 1891.
